Guido Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 A little late, but as promised, here are the pictures of this year’s various DTI events. First the DTI, from the entrance to the smokers’ corner: Quote
Guido Posted November 2, 2013 Author Report Posted November 2, 2013 The Yakatabune was not as well attended as in the years before, but we had lots of fun. A big thanks to Bob Hughes for organizing it yet again! Quote
Guido Posted November 2, 2013 Author Report Posted November 2, 2013 The famous Kurokawa party on the last day of the DTI – among the guests of honor was a diet member /former interior minister. The entertainment and food was great as usual! Quote
Guido Posted November 2, 2013 Author Report Posted November 2, 2013 The study session at Mr. Kurokawa’s house: almost 100 swords of the highest caliber (I think the “lowest” level was Tokubetsu Jûyô [!]). I can’t thank Mr. Kurokawa enough for this fantastic learning opportunity and all the trouble he went to; the general consensus was that it beat hands down the Taikai! Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Stunning. Really great shots. Thank you for posting, even though I know very few of the people concerned. Quote
Brian Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Wow! Thank you so much Guido for taking the time to share those. They bring back so many wonderful memories. Something I HAVE to do again. Would you mind identifying the guys in picture DTI09? I see Reinhard on the left (hope he is doing well) but wondering if the others are members here? Others in the pics...you are welcome to identify yourself Cyrus....is that something exiting or entering? Brian Quote
Guido Posted November 2, 2013 Author Report Posted November 2, 2013 Would you mind identifying the guys in picture DTI09?Second from the left is John Grasso from Australia, third a regular DTI visitor from Europe whose name escapes me, fourth a NMB member who might identify himself - or not . Quote
Pete Klein Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Leave it to Cyrus to take advantage of a photo op... LOL! Thanks so much Guido! I had a first hand account from Chuck Granick yesterday and I am happy you all had a great time. Most envious here. Quote
Stephen Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Great photos, i do think as the day wore on they got a bit blury...wonder why. LOL Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Excellent job, Guido! Many thanks for all that work! Aloha! Ken Quote

cabowen Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Didn't know you were a lefty Barry! Quote
Curgan Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Thanks for the pictures! Eating with friends among all those nihonto... priceless Quote
John A Stuart Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Did you not see my ugly mug Jean? I do try to avoid pics and am successful usually. John Quote
b.hennick Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Here is a link to some photos that I took at DTI. https://picasaweb.google.com/1070486545 ... ZPSlLTTKA# Sorry that only some fittings show their prices. Sticker shock was a common feeling among us first timers. Quote
watsonmil Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Dear Barry & Guido, Thank you both for sharing your DTI experiences via photos. Barry, ... I can see what you mean by " sticker shock " ! ... Ron Watson Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Thanks Barry & Guido, Really evocative images, brings it all back. Brian, I have an MP4 of Ikeda Sensei inspecting a blade at Kamakura Benkyokai, can I upload to NMB site? Cheers Quote
Brian Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Malcolm, I have opened up mp4 attachments, so you should be able to upload it as per any image. File size limit is 4 megs. Give it a try, and see if it works? Btw, I am especially interested in write-ups from those who were attending for the first time. Impressions of Japan, the DTI etc etc. It's always interesting to hear how it appears to people who have not visited there before. Brian Quote
Jean Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Sorry, John, it was late and was going back and forth between the "Reply" function and the main topic to identify people so I have most probably forgotten other people . Quote
John A Stuart Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 I thought maybe you did not know my face, as I rarely am photographed. No Howard Hughes complex or anything, just there are better things to photo than me, for sure. John Quote
Jean Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Hi John, I got your face on your website. I don't dare to remember who describes you to me as a mixture of a mountain lion and a grizzly... :D Quote
Guido Posted November 3, 2013 Author Report Posted November 3, 2013 I don't dare to remember who describes you to me as a mixture of a mountain lion and a grizzly... :DThat's easy, someone who doesn't know him .John's huge frame might be intimidating to some, but he's soft-spoken and one of the most polite people I know. Quote
John A Stuart Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Thanks Guido, I'm blushing. Ikeda san described me as a polar bear and Bob as a grizzly. I was made to take this as a humourous pic. I guess you had to be there. John Quote
Guido Posted November 3, 2013 Author Report Posted November 3, 2013 You Canadians are a funny bunch - Ikeda-san looks like a midget between the two of you! Quote
