max_levy Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I'm a very amateur collector and have the offer to buy this sword. I am lef to believe by someone on here who seems far more knowledgable than me that its a Gimei and not a Mei. Does this sword still have any age and value? What would a blade and tsuka like this be worth? I really like it but dont want to overpay! Many thanks for all your time! Max
Eric H Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Comparison with a shoshin mei Izumi no Kami Fujiwara Kunisada (Oya Kunisada)...in all my examples the mei is without "saku". Eric
Brian Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I don't want more than one thread on the same subject please. Locking this one. Looks like it might be gimei, but as stated before, can't be 100% sure. But gimei doesn't make it a fake sword. Gimei has been done for 100's of years, by ppl wanting their swords to be seen as done by better smiths and other reasons. Read the FAQ above for some other reasons. Can't value it in case there are flaws etc..but certainly over $500..maybe over $1000. Brian
