GrantK Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 Just wanted to know what some people thought about this. It's hard to judge from the pictures but it at least seems Japanese made. I of course could most definitely be wrong haha. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Koto-Yari-in-ol ... 500wt_1251 Quote
Brian Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 It's real, but fairly generic. Nice polish but there is no way you can say Koto era for sure. I would suspect more Shinto. The pole looks a much more modern replacement, maybe the saya too. A nice real yari. Brian Quote
drbvac Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 Agreed - now if the price stays low it is probably a good buy even if not Koto = attractive piece. Quote
Jacques Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 Hi, It has great chances having lost its hamon. Quote
GrantK Posted July 21, 2012 Author Report Posted July 21, 2012 Thanks for the reply guys! Yeah, I was somewhat turned off by the seller description as there wasn't much to verify and the pictures were somewhat far away. However the polish is rather nice and as Mr. Barrett said if the price stays right I might actually pick this one up as my first nihonto haha. Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 I think its a very nice item, would bid on it were it not that I am in the process of ordering an FW-190. KM Quote
Drago Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 But the thing is: The yari sold for 550 or something and now it's relisted... So you won't know if you really get it if you bid. Quote
NihontoEurope Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 Hello, It is probably re-listed, because it has faults which is unlisted in the text. The buyer didn't look close enough at the pictures, but saw the faults on the piece when he or she had it in hand. A returned and re-listed item. A theory... /Martin Quote

A theory... /Martin That's an interesting theory Martin, I had no clue it was relisted lol, just for future reference is there a way to find out if an item is relisted? I also messaged the seller and he responded, "I already have it packed so can't do more pics but kiss ski is perfect with hamon visible and free of any flaw that I can find.. Truly very nice". So not totally reassuring to say the least. We'll see how the price goes though. Quote
NihontoEurope Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 Grant, I can see that the tip has a clear offset from center in one of the pictures. Perhaps it is an optical illusion, but it is there. /Martin Quote
