Justin Grant Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Anyone know where I can find a list of Myochin smiths over the years? I can not seem to find one online or my search string is lacking. Thanks Justin Quote
Iekatsu Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Hello Justin, Online, not that I know of. The following three books should put you in the right direction though. Shin Katchushi Meikan Sasama Yoshihiko (2000) Japanese Armor Makers For The Samurai Kei Kaneda Chappelear (1987) Japanese Armor, An Illustrated Guide To The Work Of The Myochin And Saotome Families From The 15th To The 20th Century J.L.Anderson (1968) Quote
Justin Grant Posted June 27, 2012 Author Report Posted June 27, 2012 Placed some orders. Thanks. Anyone have a short list of the late18th to mid 19th century, maybe a 75 year period? Quote
uwe Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Hi Justin, i have a short but incomplete list. It was attached to an lecture from E. Gilbertson (1892) named "The Genialogy of the Myochin". The content based, inter alia, on an Japanese publication from 1891 and of some Myochin documents as well...... Unfortunately in German language. Uwe Quote
Justin Grant Posted June 27, 2012 Author Report Posted June 27, 2012 Uwe Since my mom is German, its a bit easier for me to get thru. If you have it electronically, I would be grateful! Justin it Quote
uwe Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Sure thing! I`ll scan it next weekend! Uwe Quote
Iekatsu Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 be careful with old lists, there is strong evidence that parts of the original Myochin genealogy are fabricated, there being several known inconsistencies. Is there a smith in particular you are looking for? Quote
Justin Grant Posted June 28, 2012 Author Report Posted June 28, 2012 I appreciate the heads up. I have a kabuto that has a mei, trying to see if it fits a Myochin smith. To be honest, its a long shot it is myochin at all. It looks like kin or kane and yoshi saku (maybe). It is faint, and a bunch of unreadable kanji. Quote
Iekatsu Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 If you can post a photo of the Mei and the kabuto we might be able to help you work it out. Quote
Justin Grant Posted June 28, 2012 Author Report Posted June 28, 2012 All I have are the sellers pictures, it is on the way. Just doing a bit of research before hand. That is the fun of the wait. The pictures I have are not clear, so not sure much can be gleaned. Quote
