Cheers Nigel Hi Nigel. Magenta is no more than 200 km north-east of Genova. It's on the Milano-Torino ancient roman way, 25 Km west of Milan. If you're here for quiet a long time you CAN'T MISS the Museo Chiossone in Genova http://www.museochiossonegenova.it/. It's quiet a while that I'm not there, but its great collection of Tsuba is something that deserve a visit, not to talk about NihonTo, but I don't know if blades are still available to public. Another good site to visit during your quiet long stay in Italy is Royal Armoury in Turin http://www.artito.arti.beniculturali.it/Armeria%20reale/DefaultArmeria.htm one of the biggest collections of weapons and armor in Europe, might be in the world. If you are interested in others NihonTo collections in Italy (not so near to you..) please contact me. I'm sending my home telephone number via PM.Sorry, no links in english. If you need help for booking I'll provide it. Damn, somebody out there can spend 350.000 euros for an engine alone. Hope he loves NihonTo too. :D Quote

Minister Amos Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 I was all over this sword until some guy with ZERO FEEDBACK who registered like five years ago started bidding. That was you of course. I assumed it was a shill or a ghost and got out quick. Your sword looks very interesting, my first impression was that it was bought as a project, but on further reflection and EMail with the seller, it seemed that it really is a worthy piece. Good Deal IMHO Quote
DavidF Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Very nice. I have no idea what you paid for it, but it a very sweet. Great fittings, lovely blade. Cheers.... Dave. Quote
David Flynn Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Nice little package. Whether or not it's gimei, you have to research. It comes down to how much you paid, against, how much YOU like it David Quote
sencho Posted September 13, 2006 Author Report Posted September 13, 2006 Thanks Milt.... so what is the second Kanji character then? I am looking this guy up on the net and can't find anything yet. Hi Minister... sorry to jump in on you on the bid! I got bumped too on some of the other stuff... Oh well !! Now just trying to find out more about the 3 meis.... hopefully with really careful examination I may be able to get the one on the kozuka blade too. Cheers Nigel Quote
sencho Posted September 13, 2006 Author Report Posted September 13, 2006 Now seen some comparison mei for Syozui Not completely convinced of the Kanji, especially the first character which looks a bit ropey to me Ludolf emailed me and suggested Masamichi which is close also Anyway, thanks for all your imput Milt... and the two Daves.. I may throw this one over to the fittings forum!! Nigel Quote
Nobody Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 For Milt, I will show the Kanji which I think Milt suggested. 政随 (corrected, 9/13/2006, 23:15 JST) Quote
sencho Posted September 13, 2006 Author Report Posted September 13, 2006 Thanks Moriyama san, I had been looking at the second character closely, but also after looking at examples of the mei I am not too sure about the first... maybe too muck Ozeki Karatumba! Thanks again 船長 Quote
sencho Posted September 13, 2006 Author Report Posted September 13, 2006 I actually had this for 'syozui' when I was trying to work our what characters could make up his name 処 隋 anyway... thanks again 船長 Quote

Milt THE ronin Thanks Milt... Yes I am sorry about my truly shameful efforts... I'll sit in the corner and contemplate my naval for a few hours after giving myself a damn good talking to! Where can I find out more about this fella...? saw a fuchi with the mei on it on ebay an hour ago... as I say the one on ebay made mine look a bit ropey. As always I'll bow to your better judgement!! heh heh heh :D Cheers 船長 Quote
Bungo Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 mostly gimei........as is mine. Milt THE ronin Quote
Ludolf Richter Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Hi Nigel, because my first reply wasn't shown,I had already send You a private message.Today I add a reference Mei and shall repeat my remarks to the other readers. The Mei reads Hatekeyama Yamato (no) Suke Masamitsu. Haynes M516,pre Meiji era,woking/living in Settsu and Aki provinces. The reference Mei is showing some different characters. First:he doesn't use the Kikumon Secondly:he uses the 2nd character of the normal writing for Yamato (see both characters at the ref.)only Third:there are no vertical strokes below the "roof" of Suke.I have never seen slant ones besides Yur Waki Fourth:either was the Shodai drunken when he chiseled the Mei or his son,the Nidai Masamitsu (no Suke title mentioned in the books,Hawley MAS 517),made the Mei for his father (no reference Mei to be found from the Nidai!). Cheers Ludolf Quote
Ludolf Richter Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Hi Nigel, I just forgot to mention that IMHO Your Mei is no Gimei!Who would fake him?! Cheers Ludolf Quote
