Peter Bleed Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Friends, Again, I turn to the forum with a question. I have heard that togi were able and willing to polish blades but then dull the edge. I had never seen one until yesterday when I realized that a nicely mounted blade I recently acquired fits this description. After I cleaned the blade it turned out to be in good polish with an edge that is well-formed, but it is not cutting sharp. The obvious question is why was this done? Is there a name for it. And, ahemm, , , what does it do to value Peter Quote
estcrh Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Peter do you have any pictures? There is a reference by Don Cunningham as to blades being made dull on purpose for use by samurai police as a non lethal weapon. Quote
Ruben Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Hi Peter, sharpening the blade is a different state than polishing its surface. Just if done both, as it should be it´s more work. Greetings! Ruben Quote
Justin Grant Posted June 18, 2012 Report Posted June 18, 2012 I had one polished and it returned as dull as a butter knife. But, then again, it turns out he is not qualified to be doing the work to start with. :-) Quote
