Design and Translation on Tanto.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with what design is on this tanto blade and what the characters are on the bottom left. Thanks for any help. Regards, John

My wife picked up a similar tanto for my birthday last year. It seems these were sold at shrines in the Showa era, or at least that's what other members informed me of. Not fluent enough to offer a translation, but at least here's the story on mine.
