Yamashiro (no) Kuni Tomonubu (lost)?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

Any help appreciated with this half a mei.

I think it is;

Yamashiro (no) Kuni Tomonubu

or

Yamashiro (no) Kuni Tomoshin

But the rest of the mei is gone, the tang shortened.

Any input / corrections / guesses as to the smith?

Cheers

Mark

Dear Mark

I looked at the following in Hawley's for

Nobu X for the following X's

Haru could not find the kanji

Nao 直

nori 法

tomo 友

yoshi吉 (and a couple other kanji for yoshi)

yuki幸

And only found

Hawley NOB591 as a good possiblity

Yamashiro (junin) (Fujiwara) Nobuyoshi

see TK490 and S205 for oshigata. I am not at home so can not check.

Good luck

Hi Guys

Thanks very much for your help.

I came to the same conclusion myself, as the mei does have later signing characteristics; like the spades / flicks at the end of a trident prong. And the style of signature "Yamashiro no kuni ju" is pretty unusual for that region.

The sword is up for auction and after my initial interest, it has wained, not least as I called the auction and they think the blade may have been repointed, plus it needs a professional polish as someone western style buffed the blade.

I think I am going to let this one pass me by.

So cheers

Mark
