Nihontoto Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Hello! I hope this works as I haven't tried it this way before. I have 2 Shin Gunto swords that I'm trying to translate. I think I know the kanji, but I'm not 100%, and on one of them not sure of the context. And help would be much appreciated!! The first one has 6 characters which I think say "Gen Dai Kore Kane Toshi Saku" The second one is 3 characters which I think says "Mori Toshi Saku". Am I close? Thanks again!! Quote
QuangD Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Nihontoto, The second picture: could be translated as "Kimura Toshiharu". Maybe "Nobody" could translate the first two since he is very good at reading kanji. I have been wrong twice before... Quote
Grey Doffin Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 I can't see the 1st kanji in the 1st photo. The 2nd Kanji can be read "dai" and the 3rd can be read "kore" (hard to tell without the context provided by the 1st Kanji) "Kanetoshi Saku" completes the mei. The 2nd photo reads, "Masatoshi Tsukuru". Grey Quote
Nihontoto Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 Thanks for your responses. "Masa"? Are you sure? I would never have guessed that. I don't think I'm familiar with "Tsukuru". What does that mean exactly? Quote
mike yeon Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Tsukuru = Respectfully made by I agree with Grey. 2nd def masa toshi. mike Quote
Stephen Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 will clear this up ...i think its Toshiharu... for sure...the first is Mura i think...Nobody did this mei for me a while back...sorry that i forgot the first kanji...heres a link for toshiharu, http://home.earthlink.net/~ttstein/toshharu.jpg in the first photo the kanji before Kane could be yuki..once more maybe Nobody can tell what the kanji before Kanetoshi are. Nihontoto Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 Thanks Stephen. I think you're definitely right about the ToshiHaru. Matches perfectly. I guess the only real debate is the first Kanji. Seems everyone's thinking something different. At least I don't feel so bad now Anyone else got a guess? Quote
