It isn't a sumo poster, but an ad for a company called Rikishi Wata, using a play on words (rikishi is another word for sumo player)....Company was founded in Meiji 25. No date shown for the ad.....Seems to be a rice cotton product- top says Nishiki Wata kai no Ozeki- , Ozeki a top rank in sumo, kai is world, so paraphrasing, "The top player in the world of Nishiki (rice) wata (cotton)"....That's my take on it....

Edited to correct mistranslation....

Rikishi-wata (りきしわた) is a registered trademark of the cotton wool produced by the company. I guess the poster was made after 1945.

Nishiki is also a brocade/fabric....It seems a company making bedding by this name is located in Saga....

The kanji in the poster is not 錦 (nishiki) but 綿 (wata/men = cotton).

Morning all,

I'll take a stab at the footer in the box:

りきしわた工場製品

Rikishi Wata Koujou Seihin

Rikishi Wata Factory Product

(I can't make out stroke number of the first two Kanji in the Header, but working on Sencho's shochu ;) translation above, does Sogyo mean something like Founded or Since?)

Cheers
