Hello Everyone,

 

The attached mei is very difficult for me to read. I can only be certain of parts of it. I think it reads "Bishu Osafune Ju Nagamitsu" but the kanji just don't look right. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you Piers. HAWLEY listed several Nagamitsu, with only three signing as Bishu Osafune Nagamitsu (NA 153, NA 154, NA 155) and none signed as Bishu Osafune Ju Nagamitsu. That's why I'm not so confident of my translation. I think I can rule out NA 155 (active in 1504 - too late for the sword), but cannot not decide between NA 153 and NA 154 as they were active at the same time (3rd and 4th generations of the same Nagamitsu family line) and signed the same way. Go figure!

Be careful, due to the syntax, the Nagamitsu looked for is before Sue Bizen, otherwise it would have been: Bishu ju Osafune .....

 

It is useless to search as long as a full blade picture is not posted. IMHO, one of the numerous gimei ...
