cabowen Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Not sure about the large kanji at the top but the next two are Suetsugu.... Probably related to Suetsugu Shigemitsu..... Quote
Nobody Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 The top character (actually two characters) is 筑紫 (Tsukushi). Ref. http://www.bidders.co.jp/item/167679787 Quote
Adrian S Posted March 21, 2012 Author Report Posted March 21, 2012 Thanks guys, I thought Suetsugu also. Wasn't sure so I appreciate your help.. cheer, Adrian Quote
george trotter Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Tsukushi is the ancient name for Kyushu, which is where Suetsugu Shigemitsu worked. Regards, Quote
Toryu2020 Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Adrian - Show us more of that blade when you have the chance. looks intriguing -t Quote
george trotter Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Adrian, there seems to be something wrong here... You just show place and family name "TsukuShi SueTsugu" ---- this should be followed by smith's art name, almost certainly "Shigemitsu" and if it is him, also it sometimes had a kokuin...as here. He was a good gendai tosho and had a son also named Suetsugu Shigemitsu...don't know if both worked in WWII. This mei is also from a navy sword. Hope this helps. Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Mr. Sweeney asked me to add some photos of his Naval sword's Nakago so here they are. There seems to be a number punched starting with "3" in the nakago end. Not much to go by but well. We will need pictures of the blade itself, its tip and the full nakago including the punched number. KM 1 Quote
