To Buy or not to Buy that is the question

I would really love to own a sword with historical significance but the amount of fakes and the costs of the premium blades are totally out of my reach. I had though about a Bugei Daisho then I found this;

The seller is in Australia but he claims his grandfather is in Kyoto province Japan and is the blade smith. His feedback appears good. What do you guys think of having a Daisho made by his family?

Sorry to say but that stinks a bit, pictures are really blurry but what i can tell is that if these are made in skilled graftman then iam queen of england.

Why to get anything at ebay?, it is the place where is 50/50 change to get something what you dont want. There is many well known Nihonto dealers at internet and that is where you should get in your eyes when you get your first... after everything else...

Andreas is leading you down the right path, many NMB members may have what your looking for check the above links. If your off by a grand or two SAVE and someday you'll have enough for a good sound sword, Ebay is not for new comers and even experienced ebayers can get burned now and then.

 

Study study study while your saving and the sword gods will deliver, I promise you. Take your time and it will come.

The sword in question isn't a real Nihonto. It's a piece of steel with an artificial temper (cosmetic), cast fittings, and sloppy work all around.

I suspect his grandfather works in a small shop in China where he works all day to turn out dozens of fake Japanese swords.

Buy books and study; don't waste your money on junk.

out of Japan usually has some good starter blades, this one has tighter grain pattern than most he sells, the price most likely will go up but he is one to put on seller watch.

I hate to admit it but i purchased one of these swords and got burnt. The guy needs to be shut down so no one else gets caught out.
