rkhunter Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 Hi can anyone please help with this translation. Some one has told me it is a WW2 made Wakizashi but I am not 100% sure as I am totally new to this collecting world? Cheers, Kai I am having problems uploading pictures to the site, can anyone help me out here? Quote
rkhunter Posted February 7, 2012 Author Report Posted February 7, 2012 Hi, its just the way of posting up, I do not have a clue how to work this kind of system? Quote
Kronos Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 There's 2 ways: 1) Use the tags and upload the image to photobucket or imageshack then paste the link to the image within the tags. 2) Or alternatively add the files as an attachment to your post from your computer where it says "upload attachment" when creating a message. After browsing for the correct image file click "add the file". Quote

John A Stuart Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 This is a showato made by a Seki smith 俊治 (Toshiharu) John Quote
rkhunter Posted February 7, 2012 Author Report Posted February 7, 2012 Hi, thanks very much for the help with this. What year was it made and where, I am brand new to this and I need all the help I can get so I can learn. Cheers, Kai Quote
John A Stuart Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 It was made during WW II in the city of Seki, Mino province by Mori Toshiharu. Seki Mori (森) Toshiharu saku, is the whole signature. John Quote
rkhunter Posted February 7, 2012 Author Report Posted February 7, 2012 Hi, thank you very much for all your help on this. The sword has a very nice shark skin scabbard and the blade is in very good conition with just a few tiny chips. I was told when I purchased this sword that it would have been used by a Japanese pilot, I think this is wrong though? Is this just a common sword with low value? I payed £750 for this sword, was I ripped off? Cheers, Kai Quote
John A Stuart Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 It certainly doesn't look like a wakizashi from the length of the scabbard (saya). How long is the sharpened part of the sword? 60cm (aprox) or more makes it a katana. It would have been unwieldy in a cockpit. £750 is not a ripoff these days. I would like to see more of the saya. John Quote
rkhunter Posted February 7, 2012 Author Report Posted February 7, 2012 Hi John, thank you for all your help on this. The Saya is very nice on this sword, not too sure why a WW2 sword would have such a nice saya? The sharpened part of the blade is approx 24 1/2 inches. I can get you some more pictures of the saya and sword later in the week for you all to have a wee look at. A thats good that I payed an ok price for it! :D Kai P.S. what kind of pictures are you wanting to see, close ups of mounts etc? Quote
John A Stuart Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 So, a full length shingunto, not wakizashi. The fittings yes, even the blade itself would be good. John Quote
tesscoothome123 Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 Hi Kai, What you have is a WW2 Kai Gunto (Japanese Naval Sword) made by Toshiharu. This has a higher end rayskin saya that very nice. These Kai Gunto saya's either came in wood, wood with rayskin(as this one), and metal. Regards, John Quote
rkhunter Posted February 10, 2012 Author Report Posted February 10, 2012 Hi lads, thanks for all your help with this, I have now moved this sword on today to a friend as I am really wanting an old sword made in the traditional way. I have my eye on a Tachi sword that I have been told is old? I will try and get a picture of the nakago before I purchase it to show you guys! Cheers, Kai :D Quote
