OK, now this is really serious! My avatar has disappeared. Everyone else's is there. All I get on my posts is just the silly square and a little white square with a red cross in it. Right click on 'show picture' gets me diddly squat. I shall however not have a litter of purple kittens over it..... I shall wait until his forumship 'The Brian' gets it sorted. My faith is utter........

Short note to administrator....... "Now is the time to elevate your anxiety levels."

Keith...I don't have the foggiest... :(

Try this (IE, right?)

Right click on where the image should be...then properties. Copy the url that is showing there, then paste that into your browser. If it gives an error, then try refreshing once or twice, and see if it appears?

If that doesn't work...we need to go to plan B. Anyone got a plan B?

Brian.

Plan A gave only a brief glimmer of success then nothing :doubt: Repeating it does not give a lasting solution. In my profile when I try to reload the avatar image from the URL, The omnipotent server tells me that the file extension php is 'not allowed', whatever that may mean. Therefore I am alas avatarless, a mere phantom of my former self........ I wander aimlessly through cyberspace without identity.

Perhaps this is divine retribution or some wierd karmic debt?

So.... I breathlessly await plan B. ;)

C'mon somebody....... come up with a plan B already. :?

This is very perculiar indeed. The internal server error I was getting before has stopped which is good. However the avatars are only "semi-working" for me now. For instance if I were to refresh this page I would see Brians avatar and either Johns or Sanjuro's but not both. Everytime i refresh it will show one but not the other, alternating.

Morning all

This is not Plan B...I asked a tame techie who thought it sounded like a memory issue and suggested checking the memory limit settings for your server. He said if it's php, go to > tools > host tools > host params, it should show you both the settings that your server is currently set to (on the left) and the recommended settings (on the right). He warned against trying to adjust anything yourself as info could be lost on the apache start up......whatever that is........

for me, some avatars show, some not. And here the plot thickens again:

I can see all avatars on my iPad (Safari, v. iOS 5.x), while I cannot see most on my iMac (Google Chrome v 16.0.912.77). But I can see it on the same iMac with Firefox v. 3.0.7 and Safari 5.1.3.

This could a browser-specific issue, gentlemen :-)

Right now, plan B is to wait it out and see if it stabilizes and if it is a random thing. Happened before a few months ago, and sorted itself out.

I definitely think somehow it is a server issue.

I have uploaded your avatar again Keith, try refreshing it a few times.
