gary72 Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Hi can anyone help me and tell me anything about this tsuba, I would like to know how old it is & what the animals are also would like to know what the seal says. Many Thanks Gary Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Is that a three-toed dragon? And a Shishi-botan or Botan-jishi, the popular combination motif of Peony and Shishi lion. Quote
Mark Green Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 That is one interestingly funky tsuba! Not monkey, Shishi. Doesn't look like a peony though. Maybe a cherry blossom. Or the artist never saw a peony? Shishi with three finger/paws???? Very funky Dragons. Looks like a talented grade schooler made this? Have you looked up the kao? There may be a list on line somewhere. Interesting, Mark G Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Would guess water dragon and Japanese snow monkey which eat flowers (blossoms), as part of their diet, in particular one flower that is available to them in winter when there is little else to eat, if memory serves. Also, first guess would be Shoami ..... Quote
