Hi, Is any body planning to attend this seminar? I'd love to get some info (pamphlet, hand-out or just any new ideas) presented, if possible. John

Seminar

Saturday 25 February 2012

10.30am - 4.30pm

Leeds

£30

Join David Starley (BSc PhD AIFA) for a Hands On History seminar providing an introduction to the metallurgy of arms and armour making - from bonfire technology through alchemy to materials science.

Learn how metals have been used and developed to improve self-protection and create superior weapons across the world, from the earliest use of metals to the industrial era.

We'll also look at some topics of particular interest, including pattern-welded weapons, Islamic cast steel, Japanese sword-making and the competing technology of projectile weapons and plate armour.

No prior knowledge required! Try some practical activities such as plasticine pattern-welding and examining specimens under a microscope.

Places are limited to 20 so please book early.

The first place I'd like to go is Florida to thaw out. 90 k winds, no water, no roads, 8 days now. My TV satellite dish is under 20' of snow. I had no internet this morning, but, I did clear that dish. Tampa looking mighty fine. John

All, I worked with Dave Starley for years and we did some interesting work on armour plates, yari and other topics. If you can get there, I would recommend you do so. Sadly I will be elsewhere on a long-standing commitment.

Wow John, now THAT is some winter-weather! Got my tickets to Tampa for $280.00 / not sure what they'd be now (especially from the "Arctic (which?) coast. I say dog-sled is the right idea though!!

Here's to hoping you make your escape ~~

Looks interesting. I'm not planning to go but hopefully they'll have a Japanese Swords seminar sometime soon that I would love to attend if I can get myself up to leeds.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one, unless your post is really relevant and adds to the topic..
