kbt Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 So this would be a sashikomi polish ? And if it was polished more it would be a kesho ? Kim Quote
drbvac Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 You have to look at the descriptions of the technique and pictures at the same time so that you can understand what the toshigi is doing and why the hamon on the blade looks like it does . One highlights the existing hamon to make it more apparent and the other polishes the entire surface and it look like it does! Everyone has preferences the Koshi is pretty apparent and looks flashy the sashikomi is more subtle and harder to do - depending on the hamon prior to polish and the toshigi or owners preference there is a choice.'' My apologies if using this link to this site is a no no and in no way and endoresement http://www.swordpolisher.com/Keisho.html Quote
watsonmil Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Dear Brian, Why the hell would you even think of apologizing, ... An EXCELLENT link. It should be remembered that we ALL are entitled to have an opinion on this board even if sometimes ( quite often actually ) individual thought is put down by some who believe otherwise. ... Sporkkaji Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Another link showing a side by side comparison of the same sword in both polishes. http://www.nihontoantiques.com/sashikomi-Kesho.htm Quote
Eric H Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Sashikomi polish and Kesho (Hadori) polish on two different swords. The pics show clearly the difference in the polishing procedures. And an explanation by Jon L. Bowhay, Polisher Eric Quote
Jacques Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Hi, Quote Sashikomi polish and Kesho (Hadori) polish on two different Kanemoto. The second sword is a Kanesada (nosada) owned by John Stuart. *edited by Admin* Quote
