Kim, were you aware that there are over 30,000 smiths? I do happen to have a copy of Hawley's Japanese Swordsmiths for sale which lists all these smiths, along with other useful info about them. PM me if you're interested.

If you were looking for a good reference book for Hizen School smiths, there's

HIZENTO HANDBOOK, by Eguchi, translation by Robson, was published by the JSS/US (Japanese Sword Society of the United States) Below is a link to the society's books, last one on the bottom of the page, and appears they still have copies available.

Regards,

Lance

runagmc I did that over a month ago, there are 4 smiths or more showing up with the name Hizen Kuni Tadahiro, cant find any with Hizen no Kuni Tadahiro , I think there is a real possibility that I will never find any info and this smith but I'm going to try.

I thought this would be a good place to ask having so many people interested in Nihonto, at least I feel like I have been pointed in the right direction.

Thanks for the response.

John and Jean are already helping, so you are in good hands and I'd be distant third chair on this one.

That CD from RogerShaw is also worth its weight in gold. (brilliant rec Jean)

I only minimal interest in Hizen swords, but his book is too good.

No matter how my library space may shrink, it will snow in the Florida Keys before I sell that one.

Thank you Jean, I'm trying to keep the stupid questions to a minimum. I thought it was like a first name or special title, now I finally see how difficult its going to be to be.

Hi Kim,

Just to clear this bit up;"there are 4 smiths or more showing up with the name Hizen Kuni Tadahiro, cant find any with Hizen no Kuni Tadahiro

"

The sword in your picture is signed with five characters that say, "Hizen Kuni Tadahiro" but are read "Hizen no Kuni Tadahiro". Search for either and you should find plenty.

Thanks Geraint, I guess I will have to find pictures of the work of these smiths and compare the look to the blade I have

and see if any are similar ? I'm very new to this and I appreciate everyones help.

Kim
