fitzer Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Hello, I have the opportunity of puchasing this sword. Can someone help me translate and date the MEI. Also an approximate value on the piece would be greatly appreciated. I have been told it is in mint condition with mint blade. Thanks alot Quote
Stephen Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Hattori Masahiro http://home.earthlink.net/~ttstein/masahiro.jpg hard to call a price on a sword without it in hand...gunto are going anywhere from 850 to 2500 depending... Quote
Nobody Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 I am unsure, but doesn't it look like "Fujiwara Masahiro saku (藤原正廣 作)"? Quote
Ichi Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 森山さん、It's a hard call too. Fujiwara definitely, but the last two characters are hard to identify from this pic. Quote
fitzer Posted April 3, 2007 Author Report Posted April 3, 2007 Heres a larger pic. Thanks for your help Quote
Russell P Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 It is very late here but does this help? Or hinder Quote
fitzer Posted April 3, 2007 Author Report Posted April 3, 2007 Any more luck deciphering this MEI? If its is a Fujiwara Masahiro product what would be the approximate date it was made? Thanks again Quote
Grey Doffin Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Approximate date on your sword is WWII. It looks to be a Gunto in quasi civilian mounts. Grey Quote
fitzer Posted April 4, 2007 Author Report Posted April 4, 2007 Thanks for all responses. I feel more confident puchasing the piece now. Initially the fittings looked too new but have obviously been well preserved. Quote
