kbt Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 I would like help on this mei, it looks short to me from the pics I've seen on the internet, but I'm very new to this. I used talcum to try to get it to stand out better. Thanks. Having trouble posting pictures what are the size limits please ? Thank you. Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 It looks like 己秀 I can't be sure. Oddly shaped nakago. Is this a replica? I believe it must be. John Quote
uwe Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 First kanji looks "Masa"..... :? But almost sure it`s a (Chinese)fake. Uwe PS: What`s your name? kbt? Quite unusual... Quote
kbt Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 My name is Kim Toth, I bought this wak at a gunshow this last weekend. Thanks . Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 If 'masa' it would read 正秀 Masahide. John Quote
kbt Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 Sorry, but I'm no artist lol , this is what it looks like to me , the mei pic, my son thought the second word looked more like the mei2 pic he drew. If that helps any. Thanks again guys for the quick response . Quote
kbt Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 Any ideas on how to get it to show up better for a picture ? Quote
kbt Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 If its a fake thats just the way it is, live and learn I guess. The fuchi , tsuba and kozuka that came on it were signed as well, I think the kozuka is fake the signature is on the handle and not the blade where it seems to be normally in the pics on the internet. christianmalterre Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Well??? So if you do know already?-Why do you ask?-And why do you buy-if you do have an bad feeling??????????? Come On Guys! There´s PLENTY PLENTY PLENTY (!) of very excellent literature offered here on the sales-section,many excellent books-many for dumping prices if not yes ridiculous priced! Buy you books-read them-buy new again,study(!)-till up to that moment you get "Sick of"-then again(!)-buy New Books-and just THEN!-buy you whatever you would call a Sword a Tsuba or whatever else! I really do not know how many times this all i write here was mentioned already? But it seems that the spoon missed the soup(again).... Christian Quote
Jean Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 It looks like a fake. But with no picture of the blade it self, of the fittings, one close-up of the hada, it is dificult to say. It is like asking if a painting is genuine, showing just an half erased signature and a corner of the painting. BTW: Christian is laking diplomacy but I fully endorse his post. Obviously, NMB is known so what is the use of coming to us after the battle Quote
kbt Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 Thanks Jean, what exactly to you need pictures of, I read before I posted thats why I added the picture of the point . Quote
Jean Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Close-up of the blade, of the fittings are needed, and of the kissaki. A picture of the whole blade too. The mei is nothing. In fact it must match the overall blade Quote
uwe Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 I endorse you John...."Masahide". However, why a "real" name on such an odd nakago :? As Jean said.......more pics necessary Uwe Quote
kbt Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 Ok, I hope these help. Thanks for your patience, like I said before I just started collecting . I never thought about joining a forum before I made a purchase, but now that I've found this place maybe it will help me on my next purchase. The fittings can all be changed I'm more concerned with the blade, the tsuka fits perfect, I mean nice and tight no wobble or anything, but the tsuba rattles bad. Quote
kbt Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 The tsuba and tsuka, I think the tsuba is not for this blade, at least the fit is terrible. Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Christian said, "it seems that the spoon missed the soup(again)...." Not a bad saying, but, maybe this Japanese saying 屁をひって尻窄め 'Hewohit-teshiritsubome' would be a better one in this case. John Quote
kbt Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 Pull the cupped fart ass, lol. Quote
uwe Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 I`m afraid, the whole conglomerate never saw Japan  Sorry Kim. Uwe Quote
kbt Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 Np, thanks Uwe. Thats what I wanted to know. Quote
Brian Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Please sign every post with at least a first name. Thanks, Brian PS - Chinese...not even close I'm afraid. Another lesson learned the hard way. Sorry if we sound so blase about it..but there must be thousands of these purchases for every one that comes here afterwards. Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Hi Kim, No, your translation is too literal. I wouldn't be that rude. What it means is, 'There is no use squeezing your buttocks after you have farted', in other words it is too late now; you have bought it and come here afterwards. A lesson many learn and hopefully won't dampen your enthusiasm. John Quote
Jean Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 I've just connected and improved my vocabulary by tenth Quote
gary72 Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 my opinion is that the sword is a fake Quote
Jean Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Of course, a fake: Crude mei No yasurime Unlikely nakago jiri No yokote Tsuka ito The pits along the cutting edge... Quote
