Henmi (or Hemmi) Toyo

Hello all and happy new year!

 

I'm back to the forum after a long absence.. and already asking questions :D

 

Can you provide metalwork mei of Henmi Toyo or pictures? Does tsuba made by the man exists?

I have some example of signatures on woodwork and lacquer, and some horimono but not signed.. so no signature carved in metal.

A couple of years ago one of his swords came up for Kantei and I remember the Mei was beautifully written.

 

This one seems to have been made by him before he took the name Toyo...

The horimono on the tachi is carved by the man?

Yes, I think so, but not sure. His swords and horimono were sought after as Ho-no objects in shrines etc.

 

Can't find any tsuba yet. Here is another link showing his sword and horimono. He kept changing his name, so I hope this earlier one is the same person. "Itsumi 'Chikkansai' Yoshitaka"...

I think in this case Sanmei just mistook the reading of the mei while putting a title on the page (the one you see on the browser). Itsumi is still Henmi, as they wrote on the picture.

Yoshitaka (1846-1920) was famous for his excellent horimono.
