This was a gift from my mother a while back, but there has been a question burning in my mind for quite sometime now. Is it real? I know a lot about Japanese swords I guess I just don't have confidence in myself to lay that question to rest. (I'm really not sure)

I understand it is missing a lot and my be mismatched I'll leave it to the experts!

because I see: phoney baloney tsuba wear on a nakago that is artificially aged and has a phoney arsenal stamp and a misplaced mekugi-ana, poorly done lines in the kissaki, a cosmetic hamon that falls off the ha, a # stamped on the habaki, a tsuka with too much tapering from fuchi to kashira, and a seppa that's too small, I don't think there's a snow ball's chance in hades that this is anything other than a fake.

Ouch! This info was painful! I really dislike these people that are selling these fakes. It’s my fault I need to study more! Are there any parts on this sword that might be real!? Tsuba is fake I'm sure how about the Ho the "Same" or maybe the Saya? :(

Please could you sign with your name and initial yamamoto, thanks.

I must say I agree with Grey on this one. The few things that do confuse me are the notches in the nakago (smaller ones..not those gouges) as I have only seen them on genuine swords. The combat cover and the fittings also look good to me..especially those WW2 seppa, but if the blade is fake, then they are most likely fakes too. Habaki can have a 2-digit assembly numbe ron it, but it is usually elsewhere.

Nothing much can explain that hamon except a reproduction, I'm afraid.

Seems a different level of fake though..these things are getting more and more confusing. The tsuka could be real...maybe not. How about a close up of the kissaki (tip) and tsuba?

Regards,

Brian
