IanB Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 Eric, Three Muneyoshi are recorded from mid Edo to Bakumatsu. Could it be used like an hadome but at the bottom of the shaft? Ian Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 Myochin... Muneyoshi. Interesting. Where did you find it, and was there a story with it? Quote

There must be some reason for the unusual shape. Quote
estcrh Posted April 12, 2012 Author Report Posted April 12, 2012 Here is an item that is described as being an Edo period iron for ironing cloth and clothes, I have thought about how clothing from that period could look so neat and wrinkle free but I have never read how this was done. Supposedly this little pan was filled with sand and then hot coals were then put on top of the sand, the bottom of the pan would then be used to iron clothing. Seems reasonable to me. If true then these must have been quite common at one time. Quote
