chuck Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Six months ago my son Raiden was born (short version of a long story - My wife wouldn't let me name him "Thor" and I wouldn't let her name him "Aiden", so we found a happy compromise!). I wanted him to have something personal and special, to carry with him as he got older, something that would always be his. So I contacted Mr. Ford Hallam and commissioned a set of menuki special for the boy. Raiden: http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w32/ ... But I am ecstatic how well they came out, and Raiden and I can't wait to get them! Just thought I'd share. Thanks for looking. Peace. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Don't count your chickens... Superb stuff! Quote
CurtisR Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Absolutely beautiful and masculine as well. I love seeing Ford's works and how he creates. Congrat's! Curt R. Quote
Curran Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 He is getting too good. They have sent the ninjas for him. Quote
Brian Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 I had the privilege of looking at Ford's work again last weekend at a small sword gathering at my house. This was the butterfly/bamboo themed daisho tsuba and f/k commisioned by a fellow collector. All I can say is These things have to be seen in hand. Yes..I agree he is getting too good. Have to remind myself of the time before you had your own forum Ford..and were relatively unknown here on the NMB. Why the heck didn't I get an example of your work then! Send the ninjas in! Brian Quote
Ford Hallam Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 Thank you all very kindly, Gentlemen It always very gratifying to feel so appreciated. Brian, Good to hear our mutual friend is enjoying sharing the koshirae. :D The ninja's were spotted earlier today....not so clever to try and sneak up on me when I've got a bloody big Rhodesian Ridge-back who is my constant shadow. I won't have to feed him for days now. Sneaking around in black pj's in this heat wave was never going to end well Quote
Pete Klein Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 These are pretty spiffy I must say! Quote
chuck Posted December 18, 2011 Author Report Posted December 18, 2011 I got these earlier this week. I would love to post pictures, but pictures do not in any way do these justice. I cannot capture in pixels the grace and power that Ford has imbued in these miniature sculptures. Absolutely gorgeous. I am in awe. Thank you Ford!! ...and Raiden says "gu-bah", but that's about all he says right now. I think it means thank you. peace. Quote
Ford Hallam Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 Thanks very much, Chuck. It's always a pleasure to know I've managed to exceed a patron's expectations. I'll keep pushing my boundaries. Quote
Soshin Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 Hi Ford, Yes very nice menuki set! :D Thank you for taking the time to post some good photos of them for everyone to see them. I'm still surprised your not working for a Daimyo (大名) yet. Wait wrong century for that. Yours truly, David Stiles Quote
runagmc Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 Mabey the Queen could use his services  Quote
Ford Hallam Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 Than you kindly, Gentlemen Glad you appreciate the pieces and the exposition of how they were made. Sadly Daimyo are a bit scarce nowadays but I have been fortunate to have been supported by some real princes. Quote
