Hi I know that it's not wise to ever attempt to "clean" a tsuba other then lightly wiping to remove oils ect. But how could paint be removed from the rim of an iron tsuba safely?? Rubbing with bone?iso?ect. The paint was obviously spilled on it by accident in a few spots..

Marcello,

Acetone or nail varnish remover will not hurt the tsuba or patina.

Failing this to remove the paint, paint stripper won't hurt it either,

I've used them many times.

Hey thanks allen for the advice . I assume I shouldn't rub to hard no matter what I use.I also read that soap and water is good to remove red rust, Then rubbing with bone is ok to do?

Marcello,

Take great care with what you rub tsuba with. The patina is thinner than skin

and is very easily removed for ever in your case. All scouring pads and gritty

cream cleaners are forbidden.

Go and read as many past posts on NMB on this subject and keep your hands

in your pockets for a while.

Look at Ford Hallam's site and posts.
