BDreier Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 Hello all I am asking if anyone may be able to read this paper that came with a katana that was purchased from a estate sale. As I do not know if has any help identifying the maker or school. The nakago has no mei with 3 mekugi ana and is very long and slender. Thank for any information. Regards Brian Dreier Quote

Bungo Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 Memorial (紀念品) more like souvenir to me..............memorial is such a downer but then the three ladies may be making a subtle comment. milt the ronin Quote
BDreier Posted March 28, 2007 Author Report Posted March 28, 2007 Thank you very much I was hoping it would translate to a writing we recieved with the katana. It states " A sword named Tegaki-Hoei made in Yamato district this is one of the finest works of the Teiji era (680 years before) by Hoei the 2nd generation The 15th november, Showa 20th your's truley N.Chikue This is written in english with US military papers that came with the sword from a gentleman who served in WW2. Any Idea what this letter is saying? As I can not find any Tagaki or Hoei. Brian Quote

mike yeon Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 Would you mind posting pictures of the blade? Yamato Tegai Kanenaga is a very big name. Earlier generations of kanenaga are sai-jo saku/juyo level guys. Did a lot of research on this school as I own a blade signed kanenaga that turned out to be MINO kanenaga. (all my blades signed or mumei turn out to be mino-den...) You might have gotten very lucky. Would love to see pics. mike Quote

mike yeon Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 The awesome part of it is that mino-den is at the bottom of my want list when it comes to the gokaden... it gets tricky when yamato den is your cup of tea. 3 mumei blades sent to the ny shinsa, 3 come back as mino... just waiting on those papers and its off to the auction blocks. I'd rather get bungoed... mike Quote
BDreier Posted March 29, 2007 Author Report Posted March 29, 2007 I will try to get some good photos of this blade. I am taking to the Chicago shinsa just to see what it turns out to be. As the blade is in perfect condition, what threw me for it to in Yamato den is that it did not fit the hamon or the boshi of very early sowrd. This sword has more Mino influence in that the hamon has very nice chijo with ashi and a O-maru boshi. The nakago is long and has a slender taper with 3 ana that are seperated a good distance apart. Thank you for all your help in this and look forward to seeing some of you at the token Kai as I will be set up. Regards Brian Dreier Quote
