Curran Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 No. Avoid. Buy a good book or two and develop an aesthetic. Quote
Cello Posted November 19, 2011 Author Report Posted November 19, 2011 So what exactly says avoid on this one? poor workmanship, worn, damage? Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Morning Marcello This is what would put me off: 1. It looks like a casting. (Look where the wings of the birds meet the outer edge) 2. It has poor definition. (See how "unsharp" the details are) 3. It is crudely finished. (Observe how the shapes of the birds and bamboo are flattened off as they meet the surface level) Cheers Quote
Brian Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 It's bad, it's chunky, and it looks like someone hit it with a hammer a few times  Good grief..you need to either shop here on the forum for a while, or wait before purchasing anything else. Brian Quote
Curran Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 I did not intend to be rude. I just intended to be to blunt, as there are so many things wrong with it and I was too tired last night to write a better critique. Malcolm and Brian did pretty good jobs. I was going to say it looks like it got popped out of a Japanese cookie mold, but that would be insulting to those fine old cookie molds. Brian's description is more in the right direction. It looks like it was clamped in a vice, or pounded a few times with a wide hammer. Mjolnir perhaps? Quote
Pete Klein Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Ahh, come guys... that's just a little 'drawer wear'... Quote
Jean Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Quote 'drawer wear'... Pete, you are going to laugh, that's the pet name I give to my pneumatic hammer :D Brian, " Quote Good grief" I had not read it for more than 40 years when I was reading the "Peanuts" comics. Is it really use d in English language? Considering this tsuba, everything has been said but the patina, where is it? Quote
ububob Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Jean, "Good Grief" is a uniquely Charlie Brown thing and belongs forever in the Peanuts culture. The expression itself although used in the day is growing a bit archaic. Marcello, here is a quick study. Go the the For Sale section of this forum and look up Marius K's offer of 18 tsuba. You could use that as a guide for quality and value. Quote
Jean Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Thanks a lot Bob for the explanation Quote
Curran Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 Bob, I disagree. Kermit the Frog uses "Good Grief" in his own distinct manner and is no less an icon than Charlie Brown. Are you saying the School of Charlie Brown influenced Kermit the Lizard before he became Kermit the Frog in a species change operation and subsequently founded the Kermit School of Thought? Quote
Pete Klein Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 Mmmm -- make me want some Kraml milk and coookie.... Quote
Brian Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 What's a Kraml and how do you milk it? Brian Quote
Pete Klein Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 You just did... ROFLMAO! OK -- this will help: http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Kraml_Dairy Quote
