Profile --> Board Preferences --> Board Style.... change to Nihonto

Guys, don't go changing away from the default style if you don't have to. The others are not fully supported.

I'll give up subsilver2 when you pry it from my cold, dead hands! The default setting hurts my eyes and insults my sense of aesthetics.

Nope, no Board preferences under Profile. Not in Black Pearl. Searched up and down and round and round... :phew:

Just found it, changed it, don't like it, but it was under "User Control Panel", not the obvious Profile that I was twisting around.

That's odd.....

I wouldn't have thought guys interested in a 1000 year old tradition would have been resistant to change.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Going to have to update the software one of these days and move to a whole new forum with all the same data moved over...I wonder what will happen when we have to settle on a new style/theme. Hmmmm :x

My tired old eyes are simply not up to using the default Board setting -- not enough color contrast -- I use Black Pearl which makes for much easier reading for me all around.

It turns my stomach to say so, but I fully agree with Guido... ;)

Cheers!!

Yes...your problem is that you are old fashioned and still sticking to the old "Black Pearl" forum template which only a few ppl are still using.

I am also using Black Pearl

I have been running forums myself for a few years so I know the costs involved. Server costs, data traffic etc. Also support costs money depending on hardware and software (forum software, OS etc.) so keeping a forum free is a decision made by the Admin. Like Brian I always kept my forums free. It is nice to have people donating but I to would say be careful giving people "special rights", stars etc. I have seen it backfiring on forums and some of the forums eventually died because these special things (like mentioned here already) creates a elite system that will annoy people and newcomers will not stay.

I guess giving a member a star if this member as contributed is OK, but still I would be careful. This forum is of high quality, the knowledge here is superb and it would be nice if it stayed this way without "having" to pay. Things like the raffle are actions I definitely support. But creating "groups" etc. is something I feel we have to be careful with and is definitely not the best way.

But then again paypal is making it not easier on raffles.

Just my two cents out of the things I have learned running forums.

Well said Rick, with chaps such as Mr Hallem who has a great talent and knowledge as well as Mr bowen who has a depth of knowledge many of us will never attain, the last thing we need is a little red star or banner as it will lead to another damned religion .... 8) BUT, as with the UK Knighthood scenario, should one be offered..................

Actually I find that using Black Pearl and Disabling Page Colors via Firefox Web Developer gives me the best Board browsing experience -- the text and images (including board headers, avatars, thread indicators, etc.) stand out nicely against the white background.
