Recently purchased this sword and I was hoping I could get some feedback on its authenticity. The mekugi is horn and the mekugi hole is surrounded by ivory. The habaki is wood. No signature.

Any opinions on the blade and quality? All comments are greatly appreciated.

Sorry about that. Name is Mike. I really have a fascination with Japanese samurai swords. This was one of my first purchases, and i'm trying to make sure I'm on the right track. Also any info provided would really help me start researching these guys and learn some of the terminology. Thanks.

Hi Mike,

The sword is authentic, I believe. The nakago looks fresh so it is either late (19th century at the earliest) or 0-suriage (greatly shortened). May be just your pictures but the polish looks to be acid etched or possibly very heavy hadori. Not much more I can say from the photos.

Buy books.
