Curgan Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 I needed a tsuba for a modern production wakizashi and, while browsing at modern junk, saw this. I love the design (still dream of a larger Echizen Kinai like this) and recently lost for a breath one that was sold by a fellow forumite. It was priced as a modern cast piece and got it for a reasonable price though. I am buffled however whether it is a cast piece or not. The iron texture seems like cast to me but can't see any seams. I bought it thinking it for cast (and paid accordingly) but thought it good to ask the more knowledgable. Quote
Lee Bray Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 My vote is for cast as I can see seams on the interior sukashi walls. Quote
Curgan Posted October 14, 2011 Author Report Posted October 14, 2011 they seemed to me like the edge of the tsuba and shadow, but now that I see it you must be correct Quote
Lorenzo Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 Seems to me that traces of sekigane in omote are cast together with the tsuba body. Quote
Lorenzo Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 Also (but may be camera fault) I see some golden spots here and there. If there are really golden colour spots in a tsuba like that, it could be made by patinated brass. Quote
