NihontoEurope Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 Howdy, I have been searching, in vain, for the last couple of months to find out what the symbol next to the hollyhock is. Also, if anyone have any good tips on books for this kind of research it is welcome too. Attaching 2 images. If this is posted on wrong please say so : ) Regards Martin Quote
sanjuro Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 Martin. Hmmm... crossed paper planes. Symbol of the Origami clan perhaps????? Sorry I couldn't resist........ but seriously I cant find this in my own data base and it doesnt come up on the usual googles. The other crest isnt a hollyhock incidentally, its a mitsu something-or-other (The name escapes me at the moment) and ken. Quote
tony edmunds Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 Hi Martin The closest I can find is "Folded paper" for the families Kono and Nasa. Ref. Hawley's Crest Designs No147 page 20. Incidentally its not in Hawleys larger tome "Mon the Japanese family Crest" Regards Tony Quote
NihontoEurope Posted September 14, 2011 Author Report Posted September 14, 2011 Keith and Tony, Thanks for the response. I have more to go on now. /Martin Quote
k morita Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Hi, Left on #1 pic Mon is "maruni kenkatabami mon" (kenkatabami in a circle). Quote
leo Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 to supplement Moritas post: Katabami is "creeping woodsorrel" which looks like cloverleaf, but is a weed poisonous to cattle Quote
NihontoEurope Posted September 15, 2011 Author Report Posted September 15, 2011 : ) Thanks! Now I can spend some more time researching! Also, the books are great as reference. I will try to find them. /Martin Quote

Bugyotsuji Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 It looks close to Chigai-ori-noshi 違い折りのし, the Noshi folded paper upon which to place offerings to the shrine, for example. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%86%A8%E6%96%97 Quote
NihontoEurope Posted October 5, 2011 Author Report Posted October 5, 2011 : ) Interesting. I will look into it. /Martin Quote
