blekk Posted August 22, 2011 Author Report Posted August 22, 2011 Hi, What about measurements ? Overall length - 84cm (33.1") Nagasa - 58cm (22.8") Sori (koshi sori??) - 1.7cm (0.7") Kasane - 2.8cm (1.1") Attached full shot of the blade, as well a close up of the hamon Quote
sanjuro Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 I note in the picture provided of the hamon, two longditudinal depressions in a location corresponding to the tsuri hi which are either very inconveniently located open folds (unlikely since they are very clean) or the remnants of the tsuri hi that survived the polishing. One wonders if there are more of these similarly situated along the same parallel to the hi. The more of these closeups we can see the more we can establish for the sake of accuracy in determination of the nature of the original blade. Quote
blekk Posted August 22, 2011 Author Report Posted August 22, 2011 Yes Keith I think I can see the 2 points you are talking about. Ive attached the rest of the shots along the blade of the hamon but can't seem to see any other similar marks, maybe just a coincidence? - Please do correct me if I'm wrong Quote
sanjuro Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 Could be coincidence yes, though I tend to think not. Theres one thing you should take into account here though........ Franco (Nagamaki) and Jacques are infinitely better than me at kantei. I'm learning from them too. Thats why I ask so many questions, and perhaps challenge their opinions a little. This isnt a competition, its a classroom. :D Quote
runagmc Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 I'm thinking this blade has seen some serious polishing. When I look at the pic of the full suguta I see a very bulky looking nakago in comparison to the rest of the blade. Also the way the blade kind of flares out toward the machi points to over polishing to me. And the flaring I'm talking about is different from funbari. It seems to flare out at the ha machi also. This is just what my eyes see and by no means concrete. Quote
blekk Posted August 23, 2011 Author Report Posted August 23, 2011 So....... "Is this sword real or fake and is it good???" No I really appreciate everyone's trained eyes when it comes to these amazing pieces of art and war and I hope to learn from all the experience that lurks here Quote
