md02geist Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Hello all, Can anyone assist in identifying a few blades? Two katanas and a wakizashi. Please PM me if you can so I can email them to you, thanks! For the record they ARE NOT MY BLADES and despite what the pic captions say I didn't take these pics. Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 It would be better to post photos on here, so more people can enjoy and learn about Sword Signatures... KM Quote

cabowen Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 If any of these are signed, or even if they aren't, pictures of the tang (nakago) are essential... Quote
Mark Green Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 I really like that 2nd tsuba. Yes, close pics of tangs a must. Mark G Quote
outlier48 Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 Dimensions would be nice, too. Charlie Brashear Quote

Baka Gaijin Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 Good afternoon all, I think the shape of the lower Tsuba depicts a Chohan, which I think is a kind of Gong originally from China, used in certain sects of Buddhist ritual. http://www.myspace.com/annamichellehanson Play the link and you'll get an idea of what it looks and sounds like. There are also a few Kamon incorporating it, so it may have originally had a family significance. Cheers Malcolm Quote
md02geist Posted July 8, 2011 Author Report Posted July 8, 2011 Here is a closeup of the wakisazhi nakago. I was told the waki was "14 and 13/16" long" and told about nakago "length 5 1/8 inch long, width at ha-machi 1 inch." Uploaded with ImageShack.us Quote

md02geist Posted July 8, 2011 Author Report Posted July 8, 2011 I believe you are right. I very much like the idea of a tsuba designed after such a thing! Quote
sanjuro Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 The Dai or tachi version of the tsuba would be very elegant. Quote
md02geist Posted July 10, 2011 Author Report Posted July 10, 2011 Agreed. Anyone else have any comments on the blades? Quote
