andreYes Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 Please, help me to read the mei on the following tsuba. The first kanji is most probably "重" (Shige), but I can't find anything similar to the second... Quote
Curran Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 I have seen very similar rendering of leaves on a 4th Gen Jingo. It is possibly a related student or dilettante work. If you are able to clarify the second character a bit, I will give it a further go. Quote
andreYes Posted June 23, 2011 Author Report Posted June 23, 2011 Chris, thank you for your guess! There is a Shoami Shigetoshi mentioned in Haynes Index (H 08497.0), one of his works was published in Naunton catalog. It would be interesting to compare... Curran, unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea about the second kanji. Chris' suggestion seems to me the only reasonable guess for the moment... Quote
Alan Morton Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 Andrey, that is a very good Photo of a very nice tsuba you have posted. Alan. Quote
W K Clifford Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 重虔 not sure how to pronounce the second kanji in Japanese Quote
uwe Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 Yimu, I think you have "Shigeyoshi" or "Shigenori". IMHO not the kanji in question. Uwe Quote

andreYes Posted June 28, 2011 Author Report Posted June 28, 2011 Yimu, the kanji that you suggested looks very close to the one on the tsuba! I tried to find this name anywhere, but, unfortunately, didn't succeed... I even didn't find how to pronounce it right (sometimes it's "ken", but not in this case, I suppose). Quote
