javenowens Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 My friend had this laying around his house. It is a tachi blade and I can't tell if the mei say's kazumitsu or what. Can someone help me? Quote
javenowens Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 Thanks so much. Does anyone know anything about this smith? I am guessing he is gendai smith around WW2 but I can't find any reference to him in any of my books or the web sites. Quote
george trotter Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 You are correct in what you have written...Taira Kazumitsu Saku. There are four listed in Hawley...1868. 1875, 1935 from Dewa Province and one from Higo 1830...none are listed as using Taira. Am I imagining it or are there some small marks above Kazu on the nakago?...if so, maybe a better pic would help? Edit: Grey already answered. Quote
raaay Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 sorry but is there not something funny about the Ha Machi on this sword blade ? check the last batch of pics. ray Quote
Jean Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Of course Ray :D it is the least one can say. difference of alignment of a little less than two inches between ha machi and mune machi. The shirasaya is in .... Which wood? Quote
javenowens Posted June 14, 2011 Author Report Posted June 14, 2011 The wood doesn't appear to be ho wood or anything resembling shirasaya wood. The brass peices on the wood seem to be amateuer made as well. The actual blade seems decent to me when he brought it to me. It had good balance and the signature didn't seem blatantly fake. Quote
