Are you sure you don't want to have a try at this Jason?...not a hard one. A lot by this name, mostly worked in Kaga. In the meantime how about posting a full nakago pic and at least an over-all pic?

Regards,

Geo.

Well, I think I may have spoken too soon...this first kanji is not what I thought... Katsu. On closer inspection the bottom right is wrong for Katsu....and the top is wrong for Fuji...so I had another look in my books and I suppose it could be "To" (Tou)...see Hawley TO-46, 47...but your guy doesn't appear....I think this is a problem kanji and you'll have to rely on Morita san or Moriyama san to be sure about this....sorry, my fault for messing you around.

Hi,the 1st Kanji is not to be found in my dictionaries when looking at Radical 130:not even in the best Non-Japanese book:

W.Wernecke & R.Hartmann

Japanisch-Deutsches Zeichenlexikon

"Etwa 5800 Kanji mit über 33.000 Komposita"

Leipzig 1980 (former German Democratic Republic DDR;737 pages).

This book contains also former writings of Kanji.Ludolf

I believe this reads, "Katsuiye".

Grey

Dito. Katsuie for sure. Please bear in mind that there are

many different ways a writer/smith can abbreviate certain

parts of a radical.

Stayed home today...not well...read books...gasp

Checked Toko Taikan...he shows several Katsuiye of Kaga with this style of kanji...so, Markus, Grey et al...you are correct, just a quirky writing of Katsu.

Now Jason just has to work out which one...

I had it but I found flaws so I asked seller for return since he never mentioned anything when I asked about it.

So this is back on eBay with more pictures now.
