Tsuba attribution

I have a tsuba in my collection which I am unable to identify.

 

Judging by the shape of the ryo-hitsu ana it could be quite early.

The outside edges are very well rounded - almost tapered. 

No tekkotsu.

 

7.6 x 7.5 x 0.4 cm at seppadai, 0.25 at mimi

 

What do you think of it?

The sukashi design of tombo (dragon flies) and the long hitsuana hint at an early guard. The roundness of the mimi hints at something later. Could it be an Edo Tosho?

Not sure as to the tsuba attribution or even the age. The ryo-hitsu ana look like they would be characteristic of a early tsuba possibly Momoyama Period. The thickness of the mimi and lack of tekkotsu might indicate a Edo Period tsuba. Overall I like the tsuba and the sukashi design is well done. Thanks for sharing.

I know it quite well, have discussed it with Boris :-) Nice piece. I still fail to see tombo in the design of my tsuba. IMHO it could be a round tansu lock plate plus four hirute handle drawers around it.

Young bracken fronds??????? 'Warabite' I think...... Fairly often seen on Momoyama tsuba of similar four lobed sukashi design. The only reason I pass any opinion here is because I have spent some time looking for a tsuba such as this to complete a koshirae. Not found a good one thats available yet.......Sigh

The tombo was just a thought, so don't worry about it :D

I can see exactly what Henry was getting at. Turn the tsuba 45 degrees. The two 'bumps' then become a dragonfly's head with its wings spreading out behind. The wings of one dragonfly then merge with those of the next. Only problem is the groove running from the edge - perhaps simply to create a mokko shape.
