max_levy Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Hi guys, Not sure if I'm meant to put this here, I've recently acquired a Japanese bronze, I believe to be Meiji period. I know a lot of Swordsmith's turned to making bronzes after the ban on carrying swords, so wondered if anyone could help me identify the signature (I know this isn't Nihonto but as its translation I wasn't sure where else to put it!) Many thanks for any help! Thanks Max Quote
k morita Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Hi, The mei is "Seiko saku", made by Seiko. I think that normal pronunciation of the signature is Seiko (Sei-ko). 整光 (It is not a company of the clock,SEIKO.) :? Sorry,I do not have any information on his work at all. Quote
max_levy Posted May 31, 2011 Author Report Posted May 31, 2011 Ah wow! Even if I don't know the name of the maker, just to able to say his name allowed brings a smile to my face Thanks a lot! Max Quote
Binnawan Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 I saw this, or one just like it, on Antiques Roadshow some time ago. One of the cats had stripes (can't tell from the pic). Tiger and lion together...unusual Baz Quote
max_levy Posted June 1, 2011 Author Report Posted June 1, 2011 yeah the tigers do have stripes, i think its as though the stripes have been etched away so they're a fraction of a millimetre lower than the rest of the body so its quite subtle really Quote
mizuta Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 From what i have seen on sword fittings Japanese version of a tiger male has stripes female has spots ? I could be miss informed? Regards Bernard Quote
