I like it, if you like it then restore it. The fittings in my opinion are of good quality. The issue for me is what a polish would do to the openings

I like it too. I agree with Ian, except that I would not re-polish. I think the visibility of hada/hamon etc is still acceptable and apart from some attention to the spot of staining at the kissaki, I would enjoy it as it is. A re-polish would likely remove a lot of what is left of the hori and the modern tratment of that nioi based hamon would not be an improvement IMHO. Better to enjoy the old polish and use the money saved to buy another sword.

First rule of a physician - "do no harm", to just preserve and care for this is all that is needed. Based on the photos the hada looks rough in spots and a polish might open some of that up but only a trained polisher with in hand examination can say for sure. From the photos it looks like yes, it could be restored but a full polish is expensive and a bit of a gamble. The finished sword may in the end look better but be worth less because of flaws that appear in the process.

 

Take it to a trained polisher and follow his advice...
