TTyMiller Posted May 13, 2011 Author Report Posted May 13, 2011 Thanks Jean, Does the rest of the info read correctly. I'm a pretty new to the sword collecting so forgive my lack of knowledge. Quote
TTyMiller Posted May 16, 2011 Author Report Posted May 16, 2011 Thanks Jean, I have one more inquiry if you don't mind. Would you say that this is authentic or too hard to tell form the pics. Some of the rust looks new what do you think. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 Hi Terry, Rust looks fine but the nakago has been altered somewhat. Notice how the edge side is hollowed in at and above the mekugi-ana? This is unnatural; the nakago should continue increasing in width as it approaches the machi. No idea why this was done. Also might be that the machi have been moved up a bit on the blade. Can't be sure but it looks like the mekugi-ana is too far away from the machi. This is a common occurance on older blades, but usually when this has been done there is a new mekugi-ana punched or drilled through the nakago to maintain the proper distance between the hole and notches. The sword is authentic Nihonto but it isn't pristine. To tell more we'd have to see more pictures. Grey Quote

Grey Doffin Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 Terry, The sori is way too strong; beware of retemper. Grey Quote
TTyMiller Posted May 17, 2011 Author Report Posted May 17, 2011 Grey, thanks for the reply. That picture was distorted and thus making the sori look as it did. Attached is a accurate depiction of the sori. Quote
Jean Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 Terry, The best way with pictures to know your blade is to: - Fill in this form (scan it and post it here, it will help us too) http://home.earthlink.net/~steinrl/swrdinv.htm - draw its Oshigata Quote

Take the time to read about genuine Sukesada work, which is quite nice, and also read about late Koto Bizen mass produced school work.
