Chako Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Hello all, I'm am assuming that standard military mount tsuba and seppa on a wartime gendaito blade are fairly standardized and interchangeble from sword to sword if the position of the locking clip hole is the same. I also figure it would be unlikely that a habaki off another gunto would slip on and not require some re-working of the saya throat for a decent fit. Are any of these assumptions correct? Sorry about posting in the wrong Fourum initially. Thanks for any help. Best regards, Chako Quote
Grey Doffin Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Chako, Seppa might need a bit of filing to enlarge the nakago hitsu-ana; ditto with the tsuba. Almost impossible to get the habaki from one sword to work on another; they are custom made to fit the blade. Grey Quote

drdata Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 I have a blade in type 98 mounts. Was toying with the idea of upgrading the tsuba with a cut out one (delux) one. Glad I asked the seller, as it was 2x the thickness of the one I planned to replace. I tried adding an extra seppa, 1/32", to cure some rattle and found the saya lock no longer caught. Not all that interchangeable IMO, despite being standard issue. Quote
