sanjuro Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Hi tsuba dudes. Basically I'm a blade man and as the title suggests I'm out of my depth with this item. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Tsuba-Inome-sukashi-Octagon-style-Excellent-67mmBag-/260779330586?pt=Asian_Antiques&hash=item3cb7a8cc1a Please, if this link works tell me if it is genuine. Its an active auction which has been relisted after being unbid. If you decline to comment I'll understand. Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 It is real, I believe, but, nothing special. John Quote
sanjuro Posted May 6, 2011 Author Report Posted May 6, 2011 Thanks John. Since it passed without a bid I had that impression, but I needed some confirmation. I like the design but the execution and the general feel of the piece leaves me a little cold. I find sukashi work to be a minefield of doubt. Quote
raven2 Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Hi Keith, I saw that too and was initially tempted especially at the price. After looking at it for a little bit, I got the same type of feeling as you did. I just felt it was nothing special and the design just didn't do anything for me. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 A pretty little thing, nice for someone's collection. Quote
Soshin Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 The tsuba looks to be fairly typical of sukashi done it the late Edo Period. The price is reasonable for a starter tsuba for someones collection, in good condition, but just nothing special. The points are critical about the price and condition as we are talking about eBay. Just to clear something up I often don't reply to posts in this forum because I don't have any useful information to provide not because a specific piece is low quality. Often young collectors need feedback about things they are considering to purchase or have already added to their collection. I tend to use the NBTHK Token Bijutsu monthly magazines as my information source of very high quality tosogu. Yours truly, David S. Quote
