sensei215 Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Hi I have the following papers on a tanto I acquired several years ago. I will post photos of the blade it is in hitatsura and mounts tomorrow. It is near perfect condition. I wonder if some one can help translate the papers for the mounts. Not one of my strong points. Best regards, Tim S http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/14/goldtanto.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/84 ... anto1.jpg/ Quote

John A Stuart Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 The papers are for the koshirae and the description of them. 柄 tsuka for example and the design 龍X高濤 dragon in high waves . John Quote
Nobody Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 龍野高濤 (Tatsuno Takanami/Koto (reading?)) is a craftsman's name on the fuchi/kashira. Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 I considered Takanami, but, had thought it so uncommon disregarded it. John Quote
Jamie Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 I think I've seen this Koshirae before, but can't remember where. Beautiful piece! Quote
sensei215 Posted May 5, 2011 Author Report Posted May 5, 2011 I thank all of you for your help. Does anyone have any information on the fittings maker. Where and when he worked. I have been unable to find anything. Part of the fittings seem to be solid gold which I know is quite unusual. Tim S Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 That was the problem I had with Takanami and Koto. I can't find any artists that use these kanji. John Quote
