czoller Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I am looking comments about this tsuba. It is sanmai, copper center. It has the same design on both sides. There is a little bit of separation in the nakago ana on the Kozuka side. There is also a very small "stamp" marking that looks like an 8 sided flower near the seppa dai area on the Kogai side (as marked with arrow in the third image). It is very clear under magnification, very regular, and is definitely indented - not painted). I hope the pictures are acceptable. This is my first post and my first tsuba. Thank you, Chris Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 That is seen quite often, it is a particular tagane. Usually close to the edge, but, your tsuba has been peened for fit and this may make it look further away than it originally appeared. John Quote
czoller Posted May 4, 2011 Author Report Posted May 4, 2011 John - Thanks for the information. Anyone else have any comments on the tsuba? Possible age? Thanks . . . Quote
Marius Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Anyone else have any comments on the tsuba? Possible age? Late Edo. Cheap mass poduction to my eyes :? OK, I admit it, I don't like sanmai tsuba. Both sides done from one mold... I would say shiiremono, but I would probably say the same about a Momoyama sanmai Quote
czoller Posted May 10, 2011 Author Report Posted May 10, 2011 Mariusz, Thank you for the reply. I agree with your assessment. The motif just caught my uneducated (but trying to learn) eyes. Quote
