A polished and papered Tadatsuna wakizashi sold for 18k through Shibata so I hope those fittings are worth a heck of a lot.

17k on a gamble which won't pay off even if it's good...weird...

 

I have seen them sell for even less...Makes one wonder, doesn't it???

Yes, sorry, should have clarified...18k was the highest price that one had sold for.

i agree the price is out of whack, even assuming the mei is good. The mounts are signed, but it wasn't possible to see the mei on the fuchi well enough. I hope it's a big name and they are good for the sake of the buyer.

"I'm trying to psych out bidders by showing I'm serious right from the start" (or just make them feel like the item MUST be worth getting)

"I didn't realize you could raise your maximum bid" (you can)

"My maximum bid would be the same no matter when I place it, so what's the difference?" (you're more likely to get it for less than your maximum if you hold out)

Curious to see if the buyer is a member or one of our number knows them. Really seriously doubt this will prove to be a valid work but also very interested to see what happens...
