Marius Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Dear All, A friend of mine has acquired a fukuro yari. What do you think of the signature? It has some history and is accompanied by an origami by Hon'ami Koson. There was an article in the JSSUS journal recently, showing various generations. What do YOU think? Quote
Gilles Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Dear Mariusz, I've seen quite a lot of fukuro yari signed that way. The other little yari I've seen during my wanderings are not signed with this big name. This is only my little experience as I am still a Japanese sword student..... :D Quote
micha Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Dear Mariusz, It's a gimei like most swords signed Muramasa. Can we see some pictures of the Yari. Greetings Micha Quote
Marius Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 Dear Mariusz, It's a gimei like most swords signed Muramasa. Can we see some pictures of the Yari. Micha, one pic is attached to the first post. Gimei? Maybe. What is the reasoning behind your statement? Quote
micha Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Dear Mariusz, I've seen many signatures of this smith and yours doesn't look like it at all. If you have much fantasy you can say the Masa character looks like a first generation. But even with this fantasy you can't say the MURA character is genuine. Read the article again. OR .... maybe there's a generation I haven't seen yet. Looks like a nice yari. Greetings, Micha Quote
Marius Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 Micha, thanks, this was the sort of answer I was waiting for - you point out precisely what you see as a deviation from known signatures. To be honest, I haven't studied the signature much - as already said, this is a yari from the collection of a friend... I should be grateful if you could indicate which generation the forger was trying to mimic? I know this blade will be submitted to shinsa, and I will be happy inform about the results. Quote
micha Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Hi again, Here's signature of a genuine second generation Yari (sold by Darcy).Even if you don't see to the details you notice that it feels stronger. M. Quote
Marius Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 Thanks for the pic. This is completely different and the signature here shows that it was done in a very confident manner. It is strong indeed. Quote
micha Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Hi, The Masa character below is the one I meant when I said 'with some fantasy'. Like you can see you need a lot of fantasy. The first generation is the only one who signed this way. The second picture shows the more usual way. Quote
