Cello Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Hi all, Well I listened to some responses about buying a so so wak in so so mounts and picked this up instead It just fell in my lap lol!! So I had to take a chance and go with my instinct that it's a good blade!!Could anyone enlighten me some on what exactly I've picked up here??So far with help from the translation post I think it reads maybe??mutsu....... no kami?? motokasane= 6.5mm motohaba=30mm sakikasane=4.5mm sakihaba=20mm nagasa=635mm Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Why do you post the same sword in two threads ? KM See also : viewtopic.php?f=15&t=10093 Quote
Cello Posted April 6, 2011 Author Report Posted April 6, 2011 I wasn't sure of where to post as I needed assistance in translation and help with the general condition and appearance of the sword. I'm relatively new to collecting andessagr board posting.... Quote
Grey Doffin Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Hi Marcello, Mutsu no Kami Kaneyasu 包保 Known as Migi Mutsu. The signature looks good. Grey Quote
Cello Posted April 6, 2011 Author Report Posted April 6, 2011 Hey Grey thanks for the reply and the possibly good news.So by actually lisitening to more expirenced collectors and not buying a blade for the signature but buying a blade for the blade,I may have done well!lol that would be great news.I purchased this from a firearms dealer who obtained it directly from a vet's wife who had recently passed.I bought it based on the blades merrits not knowing the mei at the time. paulb Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Well done, This looks to have potential and is a different league to many first time buys so often posted here in hope and expectation. How good a buy it is only you can judge knowing the price and whether you considered it to be worth it (you obviously did). He is not a smith I am familiar with but as said above from what can be seen so far it looks competent and in sound condition. Best Regards Paul Quote
Cello Posted April 6, 2011 Author Report Posted April 6, 2011 Thanks Paul .To be honest it's more of a 4th time buy. But none were of any substantial cost...Including this one!!this one also came in very nice high end WWII mounts in VG condition, and nice two piece silver brushed habaki. The sword is a real attic find from the vet who brought it home and I plan to take well care of it in my home... :D Quote
Ruben Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Hi, congratulation , I realy like this sword. Thank You! Ruben Quote
Cello Posted April 6, 2011 Author Report Posted April 6, 2011 Hey thanks Ruben ... I feel like I just gave birth to a beautiful whopping 25" solid steel Japanese baby..lol  Quote
Ruben Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 lol, you should be blessed It seems to be old (like the nakago/ and patina, mei looking good as well). I´am not an expert, lol,... it´s just taste at this point. Greetings Ruben Quote
Jacques Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 Hi, It seems to be old (like the nakago/ and patina, mei looking good as well). Kanbun shinto, i think this blade deserves to be seen by a real expert. It could be from the nidai Kaneyasu. Quote
Veli Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 The signature matches sandai, not nidai. Veli Quote
Cello Posted April 7, 2011 Author Report Posted April 7, 2011 Hi , does anyone have any images of a kaneyasu katana?I've only been able to find two one from aus museum and the other was a Wakizashi on Aoi arts.. Quote
Cello Posted April 8, 2011 Author Report Posted April 8, 2011 Thanks Jaques.... Your the best!! Quote
raven2 Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Well, Marcello, if it was an "attic find" I would love to find that attic. Nice blade in good condition, signature seems to be good. Can't get much better than that. Congrats. Quote
Cello Posted April 8, 2011 Author Report Posted April 8, 2011 Hey thanks Fred, it really was never out of the vets hands/ home.I got it off a gun site.the seller had some poor pics of it so I asked for addt'l ones. He sent me a pic of the nagako that I requested.. An hour and a half drive later I had it in hand! I wouldn't let him mail it in fear he would change his mind for the price I got it at... He was a real nice gun dealer very honest down to earth guy.. It came along with a cash of guns purchased from a vet who had passed..I credit the advice from board members and lots of reading enabling me to pick this out from his poor pictures. Now I'm really curious what this blade, in this state of polish is worth?? Cello Posted April 9, 2011 Author Report Posted April 9, 2011 Hi,does anyone know if this marking means anything?? I noticed before but now it looks more like a deliberate rubbed in mark.So is it a character or nothing intentional? Quote
george trotter Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 It looks like the kao (personal mark) of the polisher...not common. Regards, George. Quote
