gtstcactus Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Just seen a koto suriage wakizashi with partial mei supposedly yoshimitsu of bizen (one of them) The asking price is $8000-$9000NZD Isn't that a pretty big price without being papered? Or would papers with an attribution to Yoshimitsu send the price sky high? Seems to be in great condition... Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 With so little information there can be no answer to the question. Which generation, 1st to 5th? Is it 吉光? What condition? etc. etc.? John Quote

kusunokimasahige Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Jason this would be the perfect buy for you ! A reshaped kissaki, and a lovely koshirae ! The blade itself ? Well what do i know..... Auctions like these immediately ring my warning bells. Thats all i can say about it. KM Quote
Mark Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 blade signed katana-mei (so not ko-datchi) and with length it was a short katana or wak when made. shape and length seems to suggest no earlier than Oei, probably circa 1500. The boshi is hard to make out in the pictures and the way the hamon enters the kissaki could suggest it was reshaped. Koshirae looks average. No paper. So the BIN seems very optimistic. You basically have a questionable Koto wak, so unless you see it in hand and like it i see no reason to spend much time on it, not much to learn or be said about it from the pictures. It is real, it is hand made, it is antique, but nothing i see makes me think it is special or anything other than "what you see" Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Great Jason ! Seems like you are beginning to understand ! KM Quote
Jacques Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Hi, Have you ever seen a blade signed Fune Yoshimitsu ? Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Maybe this Yoshimitsu was a sailor KM Quote

k morita Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Hi, The mei says "---- fune + Yoshi-mitsu". 船 賀 光 Quote
Marius Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 I would never purchase anything (not only a nihonto) with such low-res pictures. Jason, I don't think it makes much sense to post such items - the pics simply do not disclose enough. Quote
Jean Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Kozori School, the one with the Mickey's ears for Yoshi, generations around 1430 and on, I had one years ago Quote
gtstcactus Posted March 24, 2011 Author Report Posted March 24, 2011 Jean, Are you saying you think this blade is by the yoshimitsu you mentioned? or are you just mentioning that you had a yoshimitsu at one time? Quote
Jean Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 Sorry to have been short but I am just back from a far away country and thought to have been explicit: You wanted info on Yoshimitsu smiths, I provided them. Generally they signed Bishu Osafune Yoshimitsu and add a datation on the Nakago ura I was just stating that this Yoshi hanji was used by Kozori smith (Bizen) and that I had one at a time. I was adding for your benefit that they spanned from Oei end till middle of 16th century. You are too new to have noticed that the Yoshi kanji used is not the most common one. Quote
