Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 Re-sized to be posted on another forum, better to use them twice :D Strange Armor and helmets, mainly from Stibbert Museum, Florence : Quote
Brian Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 Hmm....off to battle. Squid on my head today..or just a crayfish? :D Excellent pics Carlo, some amazing workmanship in those. I also found some interesting pics if you search for Japan horse armor. Some of them look more for show than actual use, due to balance and/or weight. Would they all have been battle armor, or were many of them purely for ceremonial use? Brian Quote
Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted February 17, 2007 Author Report Posted February 17, 2007 Hi Brian. Yes, I'm interested in armor too. Most of the Kawari-kabuto were either for "show-off" or to be recognized on the battlefield either by enemies and allieds. Of the above ones I think only the n.4, 7, 11 and the armor for Ashigaru (at left) in the 12° were intended for practical use. Many are Edo period, but extremely strange and scaring ones were made even in the Sengoku. Quote
senmen Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 Dear Guys, hi, I am a newbie to this forum and also very fresh in the Nihonto world. As for Japanese armour and specially the pieces displayed at the Stibbert museum, there is also a good book available. http://www.toriilinks-editions.com/f_catalogue.php I do own a copy of the Stibbert book and the pictures of the Kabuto are simply stunning. Many greetings Oliver Quote
